Greater New Orleans Human Trafficking Awarded DOJ Funding

On October 26, 2022, the Department of Justice announced funding to combat human trafficking, provide services to human trafficking victims and support research and evaluation on responses to human trafficking.

The Greater New Orleans Human Trafficking Task Force co-leads, Covenant House New Orleans and Orleans Parish District Attorney’s Office, were awarded funds under the Department of Justice Enhanced Collaborative Model Task Force to Combat Human Trafficking program.

This is the third round of funding for the Task Force under the Department of Justice’s Enhanced Collaborative Model. The Task Force’s first round of funding was awarded in 2015. Since then, the Task Force has continued to lead the human trafficking response in the Greater New Orleans Metairie area.

The Task Force mission is to:

·       Combat human trafficking through seamless collaboration between law enforcement and social service providers;

·       Use a victim-centered approach in proactively investigating and prosecuting human trafficking crimes; and provide comprehensive, high-quality social services to all victims of human trafficking.
